Janet Athanas relocated from Sonoma County, California to Bethel, Alaska in 1992 with her husband Larry, after their two sons were raised and on their own. She went to work for Cooperative Extension Service/UAF in 1993, and took the job as the Director of the Bethel Youth Center & 4-H Program, a collaborative position with the City of Bethel in 1996.
